New York Custom Processing, LLC
In February 2017, Pro-Cert Organic Systems Ltd. certified that NEW YORK CUSTOM PROCESSING LLC was compliant under the USDA National Organic Program (NOP) 7 CFR Part 205. This certification is based upon the evaluation of: (i) an application containing the organic production plan, (ii) the results of an inspection of the operation, (iii) production records and (iv) such tests or other information deemed essential by the certifying agent.
Recommended by Animal Welfare Approved
Following a review in May 2017 New York Custom Processing is recommended by Animal Welfare Approved for the slaughter of beef from AWA farms. Animal Welfare Approved has the most rigorous standards for farm animal welfare currently in use by any United States organization. Its standards have been developed in collaboration with scientists, veterinarians, researchers, and farmers across the globe to maximize practicable, high-welfare farm management.
Opened in 2010, New York Custom Processing LLC began operations as a custom facility for area farmers. With twenty employees, this USDA facility operates five days a week processing beef, veal, pork, lambs, and goats. New York Custom Processing operates at the former Schaller’s Slaughterhouse, which was purchased in 2009 and renovated with the help of the Curtin family. Curtin Dairy, with more than 2,300 head of cattle, operates just north of New York Custom Processing, LLC on NYS Route 8. More than $1 million has already been invested to bring the facility to its current operation.
New York Custom Processing, LLC is a USDA plant where a Federal inspector examines at the carcass and determines the health of the animal prior to slaughter and during processing. All USDA meat processing plants perform many tests and follow specific procedures for cleaning, sanitizing, and storing. All cuts of meat are vacuum packed and labeled. Each label includes the name of the cut of meat, the weight, the farm name, processing facility, and the USDA legend.
